We are currently accepting applications from highly experienced and skilled instructors for a short-term intensive language programme in Nagano-ken beginning in July 2009. Applicants must be able to commit to a 10-week contract. We require experienced, native-level English speakers for this position, with university qualifications from a recognized institution. Previous teaching experience (a minimum of 2 years) is a must. Ideally candidates should have teaching experience in either Japan or experience teaching Japanese students. Teaching qualifications (CELTA/TESOL/BEd/PGCE etc) are preferred but not essential.

The training programme is an intensive 65-day, 6-day-a-week course. The students are all volunteers with Japan’s overseas development programme. On completion of the training programme the volunteers will be dispatched overseas for 2 years. The course is designed to provide students with the tools and confidence to work and interact in their host countries.

Teachers are responsible for creating lesson plans based on a set syllabus, and then teaching the 210-lesson programme. Teachers also are responsible for the regular testing of the students’ progress, setting mid and end-of-term exams, homework and self-study tasks. There are on average 6 students per class (a maximum of 8). The focus of the teaching is functional, practical, and communicative.

For these positions, we offer an attractive monthly salary (less national income taxes of approximately 7%) of approximately 330,000 yen, FREE furnished housing with no moving in costs (utilities not included), reimbursement of travel expenses, free transportation to and from the training centre, subsidized health insurance, subsidized lunches, and free Japanese lessons (offered online).

There are four terms per annum:
early April to mid June.
early July to mid September.
early October to mid December.
early January to mid March.

Candidates will be required to attend an interview in Tokyo.
